Prince of a day

I owed an email to a friend in Germany (hi, Sille!) so this morning I sat down at my computer to reply. She had asked whether I know the book The Little Prince. I know of it, yes. I think of it as a classic of children's literature. I would even recognize the illustrations, but in all my years I never actually read the thing!

On a whim I searched the web and found the book online! (http://www.angelfire.com/hi/littleprince/)

Twenty-seven chapters and an introduction later, I returned—misty-eyed—to my email. The story left me wanting to catch each of our teens and children into a close hug and tell them in all sincerity that they have tamed me just as surely as the flower tamed the little prince. I'm such an old softy.

2 Souls 1 Heart designI devoted the afternoon to working my 2 Souls 1 Heart design into higher resolution files for a new section of cards, tiles, and mugs at JamieCo Design. That's it, there on the left. The design itself isn't new—it first appeared as a Mac OS X icon in 2002. Even after all this time it still ranks high among my personal favorites. Like so much of my work, my partner was its inspiration.

Holding hands is such an intimate act. A gesture as simple as that can say more about how two people feel about each other than reams of heartfelt prose. The touch shows a bond, a closeness, a trust. I deliberately didn't show more than two hands because I wanted the design to mean as much to anyone else as it does to me. It can be you and the one you love, it can be me and my partner.

Two souls.
One heart.

That's what really matters.
