Oops! I broke a record

When I design freeware icons, I do as I please. So, after I post a new set and before word spreads (via The Iconfactory, Apple, ResExcellence, and MacMonkies), I wonder how well it will be received. I'll think, "Well, these are okay, but they're not my best work." That's usually when the set turns out to be most popular.

Ink was like that. I was astonished when it was downloaded a record 736 times in one day. Maybe some icon artists routinely see the fruit of their labors shoot to those heights and beyond, but I figured that the 1,000 download mark was still some time away for me. Now I think it will happen sooner rather than later. Short 'n Sweet has already passed Ink's record, but I won't know the final number until tomorrow. (My 11:00-12:00 p.m. last night is the hosting server's 12:00-1:00 a.m. this morning.)

In the meantime, I'm enjoying the feedback:
• "Short 'n Sweet has been added to MacUpdate.... Please keep MacUpdate informed of any new Mac version releases of your products, so we can promote them for you." Yeah, an automatic email but I still liked it.
• "I will die if I can't post your heart set!" PixelGirl Presents is so cute.
• MacLiberals saw my work on MacUpdate and wants to feature my icons on the site for Valentine's Day. He also offered to "raise a small fuss" whenever I post new icons. That's fine by me!
• And last but not least: "You are, by far, the coolest gay guy I know (and I am <expletive> straight). The most talented and kick ass artist. Your icons for OS X are awesome, its been a while since you posted some icons. Keep it up man. And you use Macs!" Ah, my adoring public.
