Bright spots
What a gorgeous spring day it is here! Sunny, mid 50s, and green green green! On my usual walk for coffee and a newspaper, I perched some pages printed from Madison's website atop a pile of yard waste down the block a bit.
I exchange greetings and sometimes a comment or two with a pleasant woman there when she's out working in the yard. Yesterday, she and another woman were clearing brush and leaves from shrubs and flower beds. She paused as I approached and asked whether I know when the city picks up such stuff.
Apartment-dweller that I am, I don't stay abreast of that schedule. Still, we commiserated over the dead spots left by piles that go uncollected for too long. Madison's website is pretty good when it come to services (although I think the design needs help), but my neighbor doesn't know much about computers.
I went on to walk my errands. By the time I returned, they had finished their yardwork for the day.
There are several ways to look up waste collection information, of course, but this morning I thought it would be nice to leave those pages where she could find them. I don't walk out the door thinking "I want to find someone to help," but I do enjoy offering unexpected kindnesses. If nothing else, I always feel more cheerful afterward. I just hope I wasn't just creating waste paper!
