A couple months ago, one of my UK admirers asked for a red ribbon icon. Time passed and I tinkered with a design until I got something that appealed to me. Then I thought to myself, "Why stop at just one color? There are causes associated with practically any color you can name." "No reason at all," I replied, so I kept on going.MacUpdate is one of the sites where I submit icon news. They promptly added Awareness and it's been downloaded 240 times so far via their link. Thanks MacUpdate! Now "Anonymous" has commented that the set "doesn't contain the Ribbon indicating support for People That Think Ribbons Mean Diddly." Sheesh.
Granted, the general effectiveness of awareness ribbons has probably diminished. Sensenational media coverage can whip interest into frothy peaks for just so long before saturation leads to indifference. Still, I'm thinking that this bright penny must not be close to anyone with HIV or breast cancer or any of the other causes represented by colorful snippets of ribbon. Odds are that won't always be the case.
